• Son of Blue Theme Discussion

This theme discussion post was created to allow those who have downloaded the “Son of Blue” WordPress theme the opportunity to post their comments and/or questions on how the theme is working for them. It is also meant to encourage those who have not downloaded the theme or are considering it to do so.

Son of Blue, now with threaded comments, was inspired by the original Blue Fade theme, and was designed for a clean and easy to read layout with new functionality.  It includes a PNG file so you can add your own custom logo to match the one in the header. The newest version includes a creative comments form and post reply form as well as sub pages functionality for the top menu.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Take a look at some of the responses we have had to this article.

    1. Thanks for writing the Son-of-Blue WP Theme. The sub-page drop down menus were the feature that drew me to his theme. However, I’m having a problem with it. Only one of my Parent menus appears.

Here’s a link showing some screenshots.

Thanks for any tips you an offer.

      • Hi Phyllis,

I am glad you are enjoying the theme and thanks for downloading it.

I could not tell from the screenshot, but make sure you are using the latest versions (3.0 or 3.1).

If you are using one of those versions, I would actually have to look at your code to see why the sub pages aren’t working.

Also, I am sure it is but make sure the sub-page is actually assigned as a sub page.

For further discussion, feel free to contact me via email by using the Contact page on this website.

        Thank you

    2. Hi, we’re loving your theme at the Atlantic City Free Public Library. Our blog isn’t public yet so unfortunately I can’t yet share.

      My Question:
How can I get the Tag Cloud to appear as a Tag CLoud instead of as a list?

      thanks,
      Aubrey

      • Hello Aubrey,

I’m glad you guys are liking the theme and thank you for downloading it.

I don’t know how many tags you have but the more you add, the more “cloud like” it looks.

There are also some widgets you can download from WordPress.org that may better serve what you are trying to.

When your site is ready, contact me via email and I will be glad to help. You can email me from my Contact page.

        Thanks!

I’ve been using Son of Blue for the better part of a year and like it quite a bit – it was flexible enough to mimic the main site aesthetically and has been easy to use by and large. I was about to move to the upgrade when something went wrong.

None of my images appear – not just things that I’ve uploaded, but the header, the borders, the rss.png, the WordPress symbol, etc. This issue extends to the admin panels as well.

Is this something that would be corrected during an upgrade (I doubt this) or does this need to be handled before the upgrade?

Also, any ideas what it could be? The WordPress forums haven’t been much help.

      Thanks!

      • Hi Tony,

Man, that stinks about the issue you started experiencing.

If I am reading correctly, nothing has been updated at this point so I am curious of which upgrade you were referring. Is it the upgrade to WordPress .2.92?

If so, I would recommend correcting this problem first before you upgrade so as to eliminate any other possible cause.

As far as your images being gone, that could be any number of reasons. Since it is occurring in your admin panel as well, it sounds like something is amiss with your WordPress installation or at least, in the CSS.

If you want more help, send me an email from my contact page.

        Thanks

    4. I like this template which is why I downloaded it however, what’s with the big title heading Son of Blue – I can not see where I remove that in the stylesheet or Header editor.

I think this is going to be an enjoyable template to work with but I certainly can’t use it with the Son of Blue on it – my site title isn’t seen, LOL!! Help a relative newbie please.

Many thanks and by the way, keep up the fantastic work you guys!!! I will certainly promote!

      Cheers,

      Trish

      • Hi Trish,

Thank you for downloading the theme and I am grateful for your comments and promotion. It sure is a good way to start my day.

If you downloaded the most recent version of Son of Blue (version 4.), just create your own image, save it as logo.png into the images folder inside the theme and upload it to your server.

The current image size is 270×103. The image can be longer but I would recommend keeping it the same height.

You can remove it all together by editing the HEADER.PHP and remove the logo div.

I hope that helps and thanks again.
